As I was reviewing races for the SC legislature I realized that there was an incumbent on my potential November ballot without an opponent.  The number one reason I chose to jump into this race was that the incumbent did not have a challenger.  There is NO democratic process if incumbents run unopposed.  The public must be offered a choice if democracy is to remain valid.

The second reason I chose to run against this particular incumbent, over another individual running unopposed, is the fact that the current SC district 14 Senator has been in office for 40 years.  It’s time to modernize the SC Senate and the best way to do that is to replace one of its longest serving Senators.

Finally, with the 2020 census underway, I believe it is time to end gerrymandering and create voting districts based purely on populationNOT political party or race.  What better way to end gerrymandering than to be inside the Senate encouraging a redistricting process free of partisanship?
