Hello, my name is Jacqueline Ku but everyone calls me Jackie. I am running for the Duarte Unified School Board (DUSD) because I believe all students have the potential for greatness. I want to represent the voices of our students, educators, and parents within our Duarte community.
I received my undergraduate degree from San Jose State (Elementary Education & minored in Mathematics K-8). After college, I joined the Peace Corps to teach for two years in Liberia. But due to the Ebola virus I was sent back to the states and decided to join my now husband in Colorado. I obtained my teaching credential while working as a 7th grade math teacher. In 2019, I received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University. After my husband completed his doctorate, we returned back to his hometown of Duarte with our two furbabies (Elsa & Ellie).
During my time as a teacher at Duarte High School (DHS), I was a part of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Interact Club, 2022 Class Advisor, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Leader in Technology Education (LITE), Family Math & STEAM Night and Math Help. I wanted to be an active teacher to help promote positive change at DHS. My classroom motto was “Mistakes are welcome”.
I know what our students, teachers, and parents are experiencing in our schools. I am currently working in an organization to better public schools where student thinking is at the center of education. My hope is to build up DUSD through open communication, creating equity within the district, creating a collaboration of students, educators, parents, and other stakeholders I believe in the potential of DUSD and what an honor it would be to serve its community. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better.
Thank you for endorsing this campaign!

I am running for Duarte Unified School Board because I believe all students have the potential for greatness. As a former math teacher from Duarte High, I have first hand experience working with students and educators within the Duarte Unified School District. I know I can represent the voices of our students, educators, and parents within our community to create a true partnership to enhance our school district. I believe I can offer the Duarte Unified School Board a ground level perspective of the challenges that students and educators have faced especially with regards to distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the project manager for the UCLA Mathematics Project, I work with educators who provide professional development to public schools within the Los Angeles area, including Los Angeles Unified School District. I have experience creating and managing contracted and grant funded budgets. Collectively my experiences allow me to bring my passion as an educator, while maintaining the financial responsibility needed as a Duarte Unified School Board member. I look forward to working together to strengthen and empower our community. I will transparent and passionate leadership. I would be honored to have your vote.
