My name is Dr. William Reid and I am asking for your financial support to be elected as a representative to the Maryland (MD) House of Delegates in 2022. People ask what inspired me to run for political office. In 2016, Donald Trump’s divisive, bigoted, and often racist views motivated me to become a part of political change to reflect our country's values. My journey began with a successful run for a seat on the Frederick County Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC).
As a lifelong resident of Frederick County, my family’s numerous contributions influenced me to continue their legacy of commitment and service to our community and country. My great uncle served as the first principal of the African American High School in Frederick County, MD. I am also proud of my military service and my family’s military contributions which include my father, sister, and uncles, all whom served in the United States Armed Services with distinction and honor. Another uncle was a respected veterinarian in Annapolis, Maryland. My mother, a Frederick County school teacher for more than thirty years, and an avid supporter of civil rights, worked tirelessly to end racial discrimination as a young adult, and encouraged me to actively oppose racism, hate and bigotry.
My family set the example to achieve academic success and to reciprocate to my community and country. Therefore, after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, I served in the United States Army as a Biological Science Assistant. Post-military service, I attended Graduate and Veterinary Schools at Tuskegee University, then returned to my alma mater, where I became an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. My subject matter expertise focused on Infectious Diseases Research that spanned more than thirty years. I am now a retired Staff Scientist from the National Institutes of Health.
Presently, I am committed to service the Frederick community, my home state of Maryland, my country and the Democratic Party. I have accomplished this by holding a number of different positions that include election to the Frederick County DSCC, and as a Joe Biden delegate to the 2020 Democratic National Convention. I am also a member of the COVID-19 “Testing Task Force” helping to assess and monitor testing needs throughout the county, a member of the Climate Emergency Mobilization Workgroup tasked with developing recommendations to develop an actionable roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I participate in moving the county, state and country forward as a member of Progressive Maryland (state chapter), a member of Progressive Frederick (local chapter), a 2020 graduate of Progressive Maryland People’s Leadership Institute and a member of the Frederick County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The mission of all of these organizations is building social, economic, criminal and racial justice.
Thirty years of service as a soldier, an educator, and scientist, combined with my community activism have prepared me to undertake this path to public service. I am committed to a progressive agenda of social, economic, educational, racial, environmental and criminal justice reform and implementing positive change in our community and throughout the state of Maryland. These are some of the values that I am committed to if elected as a representative to the Maryland House of Delegates. I humbly ask you to consider a pledge contribution of $100.00 or more to my "CROWDPAC" campaign web site. Your pledge will help determine if I have enough financial support to officially launch my campaign. “Help me fight for you and progressive change in the Maryland House of Delegates in 2022”.
Thank you, in advance, for your support, I welcome you to OUR effort!
