“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

This quote from Mahatma Gandhi was on the wall of my sophomore World History classroom when I attended Chapin High School. During that school year the seed of becoming an educator was planted in my head. During my senior year there was a vocabulary term in my U.S. Government class that resonates with me to this day. The term: political efficacy. Political efficacy is the belief that one can understand and influence political affairs. That seed planted during my sophomore year, combined with the belief that was instilled during my senior year, has led me to today’s announcement.

I am officially running for the District 3 seat on the Berkeley County School Board.

As a product of South Carolina public schools, from Kindergarten to earning a Master of Arts in Teaching from Winthrop University, I have witnessed firsthand the successes and shortcomings of our state’s education system. I am proud to say the seed planted in my sophomore World History class has come to fruition as I am currently teaching and coaching at a public school here in the low country. And although I do not teach specifically within Berkeley County, my teaching and coaching positions combined with my time living in Goose Creek have afforded me the opportunity to get to know the teachers, students, and parents of BCSD. Berkeley County students and teachers are facing many of the same challenges that school communities are facing statewide. Our School Board has among its members parents, former administrators, and representatives of the private sector. But what our School Board is missing is a voice from within the current classroom environment. I am uniquely positioned to represent the many voices of the educators and students that largely go unheard at the school board level.

As a brother of Pi Kappa Phi, the only national fraternity founded in Charleston, SC, service to others is at the bedrock of my core values. I intend to be of service to all those in Berkeley County who require it, but I cannot do this alone. I need your help with obtaining resources and spreading the word. Please assist my campaign in its fight to bring the voice of teachers to the table. Your donation will propel me to the Berkeley County School Board to be an educator for education!

Thank you for all of your support during this new adventure and please make sure that you vote on November 3rd!
