A Change of Face for Carlstadt Council

Thank you for visiting our page.   We are Jarrett Milligan, Luis Venegas, and Lorraine Joewono, candidates running for three seats on our town council in Carlstadt, New Jersey.  

Jarrett is a lifelong resident that served his country proudly for over 6 years in the US Navy. He is a 22-year volunteer fireman in town and served as Chief in 2013.  He is currently employed by a global construction firm as a Senior Director of Environmental Health and Safety.  He is married with three daughters. 

Luis is a small business owner that settled in Carlstadt more than 25 years ago. He is married with two daughters. He is an active member of our local church and has served as an elder. He has spent more than twelve years as a volunteer coach in our town.

Lorraine has been a Carlstadt resident for more than 40 years, raising two generations in town.  She is currently the Director of Senior Services for Bergen County and in charge of the Meals on Wheels program. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Lorraine coordinates meals for 72 towns daily. Lorraine is a former Councilwoman and Board of Education president.  

We are running for council for a few reasons. 

We currently have an entirely-Republican mayor and council. We believe in transparent and socially responsible government, with the ability to work together with groups of varied opinions toward a common goal.    

We want to ensure the needs of residents are being met by cultivating an open communication system for everyone. We often see town projects and purchases inconsistent with what the community actually needs.

There is a lack of structure and accountability from a management perspective.  Hiring and promoting protocols must be established and consistently implemented, especially when decisions involve taxpayer expenditures.  All interested parties shall understand how and why a decision was made because we will continue to emphasize transparency in our town government.

We will strive to utilize our valuable resources properly so we as a community creates less waste; we will also focus on lower upfront costs. We stand in favor of planning for the future of Carlstadt and making our borough more sustainable, not just for the environment but for the future residents.
