I am running for one of two open seats on the Maplewood Richmond Heights (MRH) Board of Education to nurture a school community that welcomes and supports all students, and also to advance the board's work in four key areas:

  • Equity: Prioritizing and advancing the district’s commitment to educational equity

  • Recovery: Applying an equity framework to addressing the upheavals of the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Transition: Supporting a new district superintendent and managing related change

  • Growth: Planning for continued growth in district enrollment and its impact on resources and the community

Our district plays a central role in the vitality, stability, and diversity of our community. Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has deepened economic and racial inequality, brought new urgency to expanding educational equity, and revealed the extent to which our families depend on MRH and each other. It has also compelled us to seek a new level of leadership and direction from our Board of Education.

Like many of you, I responded to these circumstances by joining efforts to meet our community's most pressing needs. I became a project manager for MapleGOOD, sought appointment to the Maplewood Planning and Zoning Commission, and organized community actions to advocate for racial equity. These experiences have helped me to see the immediate and catalyzing impacts that civic engagement can have on improving circumstances for our neighbors and our families.

My service to the board will evolve and amplify these efforts, allowing me to lend my considerable professional and volunteer experience to the district. I have worked for more than 20 years in program administration and fundraising for nonprofits and universities, including public education systems in five states. I have also served on boards and committees for a number of professional organizations, and I have developed a keen appreciation for the impact of strong public governance.
