I was born and raised in the Tacoma/Lakewood area. I am running for Lakewood City Council because I want to bring change to the local government. As a single mother of 4 children, I have first hand knowledge of the struggles we have in our communities. Lakewood has a median income that is lower than Tacoma, but the current city council does not focus on creating opportunities for the people who live here, they are more focused on spending money to "beautify" the area to attract people who are wealthy and push out the low socioeconomic residents of Lakewood. I want to change that.

What are your reasons for seeking this office; why do you want this position?
I want this position because I saw a need to bring a more grounded look at how the city is run. Right now, the council members spend more time, money, and energy on buildings, statues, and concrete than they do on the needs of the people who live in Lakewood. While we all strive to create spaces that are pretty, we cannot ignore the fact that the median income of the Lakewood community is poorer than the median income of Tacoma. While we have pretty parks and lakes, we cannot forget that the majority of the people of Lakewood work so much that they do not have the time to actually enjoy those parks and lakes. While those residents of Lakewood that live near the center of Lakewood, or those that have cars, can access the many grocery stores and amenities Lakewood offers, we cannot forget that there are entire areas of Lakewood that are experiencing food apartheid and horrible bus service, which keeps their low socioeconomic communities isolated. I am running because these issues and more are important to me and I want to help create the Lakewood that focuses on, and fixes the issues that have been ignored for too long.

What are your qualifications for seeking elected office generally and this office in particular?
As an invested member of my community, I know the needs of the community, especially the needs of the people who are not usually heard. Lakewood City Council already has many members on council who are there to help big business and beautify the city. What Lakewood City Council needs is someone who is there to help the people and create a city where we can all thrive. That person is me.
