Re-elect Tamisha Walker for Antioch City Council District 1 2022.
Leadership focused on the people and the solutions, not just the fight.
These past few years have been challenging as well as inspirational. So much has happened. We have all been experiencing a disruptive change in our lives and need local leaders that will run towards the difficulties facing our community rather than turning a blind eye. Antioch needs a leader that won't let inequity go unaddressed while others try to conduct business as usual.
Her campaign (The Peoples Campaign) commitments were followed by work done.
Councilwomen Torres-Walker’s efforts to address public safety led to the establishment of the new Department of Public Safety and community resources. She advocated for $300,000 in Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act Funds to find community-based resources to keep our most vulnerable high-risk young people out of the criminal legal system. Councilwoman Torres-Walker in partnership with Moms Demand Action secured $1.8 million from the State to reduce and prevent gun violence in Antioch. She also Co-led the creation of an apprenticeship program for transitional age youth and young adults who deserve an opportunity to get off the streets.
Councilwoman Torres-Walker co-authored and advocated for the following critical public policy: Body Camera and Dash Camera Policy, Ban on Positional Asphyxia Policy, Tenant Protections Policies, Hazard Pay for Grocery Store Workers, as well as a Project Labor Agreement.
She has focused on addressing issues related to equity and accountability by advocating for the establishment of a Police Civilian Oversight Body and a Human Rights and Racial Equity Commission.
She has stayed committed to engaging residents in our community who have been historically underserved and have had their voices underrepresented. She has supported community events such as rapid response funding distribution to needy families, job fairs, unhoused resident outreach, and holiday food and toy drives for residents of highest need in Antioch during a global pandemic.
She has worked closely with the community on these accomplishments and she is committed to finding more ways to advance equity and shared prosperity in Antioch by winning another term.
