Why you should support this campaign

Lateefah Simon is running for Bay Area Rapid Transit Director because she believes that public transportation is essential to equitable societies. Lateefah’s visionary leadership in social justice has earned her the distinction as the youngest woman to receive the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, and her juvenile and criminal justice programs are replicated in cities nationwide. Lateefah is legally blind and relies on public transportation everyday.

“Lateefah truly understands what the public needs from BART and how it can better serve our community. Talk with her and you will find how smart she is, how aware she is of competing needs and how they affect our public transportation system. More than that, she has a plan. As the youngest woman to receive the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, her visionary talents and abilities have been broadly recognized and affirmed. She's in the trenches, so to speak, daily and as a rider who depends solely on public transportation to care for her family, has a stake in the outcome of BART's services. She gets it and she enthusiastically gets my vote.”

  • Audrey Comeaux endorsed

“Lateefah is a BART rider so she experiences the customers frustration and understands their concerns regarding broken elevators and dirty restrooms. She is passionate and caring about the entire BART entity.”

  • Marisa Gonzalez endorsed

“I see her passion for and commitment to social justice and a community that works for everyone.”

Your support has been heard! Thank you!

Friend,

Thank you so much for your endorsement or contribution to my campaign. Because of the dozens of you who participated, CrowdPAC took notice and featured my campaign on the homepage of their website for five days!

Now the local press is taking notice too – the East Bay Express has published a profile of me this week which you can read here.

But your words of support mean the most. With you behind me, we can win this election and give folks the affordable, accessible, and accountable public transportation that we need to get to work, to be with our families, and to participate in our communities.

In gratitude,

Lateefah
