Why you should support Alameda Renters Coalition

Update as of 10/20/16:

Thank you all for your generosity! You donations have helped us purchase and place 200 lawn signs and 600 window signs around Alameda. Because of you, homes businesses all over town are proudly displaying YES ON M1.

Now, in these final weeks, we need to get another mailer out to debunk the myths and scare tactics the opposition is spreading about M1. Will you help us to get our message out to every household in Alameda? Donate today!

More and more Alameda residents are being uprooted by skyrocketing rents and no-cause evictions. Without clear, substantive, and permanent legal protections, children are ousted in the middle of the school year. Long-term residents, including seniors and others barely getting by on fixed incomes, can be forced from their homes on a whim. For more than two years, the Alameda Renters Coalition has advocated on behalf of renters before the City Council.

We have registered a ballot measure (Yes on M1!) for a City Charter Amendment so people can vote for a permanent solution to replace the City's inadequate, temporary rent review ordinance. We need $5,000 to get out the vote to pass our Tenant Protection and Community Stabilization Charter Amendment on the November ballot.

A community means people, not brick and mortar. If we fail, our community will continue to be exploited by landlords and others whose sole objective is profits. Please help give residents who pay their bills and follow the rules a fighting chance at housing stability.
The residents of Alameda will be immensely grateful for every dollar you contribute toward the stability of our city.

Signed ,

Alameda Renters Coalition Steering Committee

“Rent control is good for healthy communities, it increases the value of non-rental land (homes and businesses) because it builds a diverse, strong, and happy community. When renters know they don't have to live in fear of getting evicted and know that landlords will not gouge them to try to maximize profits from their home they can live a healthy happy life”
