This November, San Francisco voters will be considering Proposition S, San Franciscans for the Arts & Ending Family Homelessness. Without raising any new taxes, this ballot measure will restore the true purpose of the Hotel Tax, which is to fund arts and culture and to end family homelessness in San Francisco.

Funded by San Francisco’s booming tourism, the Hotel Tax was originally used to expand access to arts and culture and to provide housing for low-income families. Slowly, this purpose has been changed, as specific allocations have been repealed. This critical loss of funding has had a profound effect on arts and housing.

This campaign is important not only to me, but to all San Franciscans, because it demonstrates our commitment to alleviating homelessness and supporting the arts.
