We need less of Team Strange, and more leaders like Anthony Davis, who is Alabama's first Black House Minority Leader, and one of 33 Democrats who hold a seat in the house chamber. Republicans have 72. A graduate from A&M, Davis has a history in public education, previously as a elementary school teacher before he was elected to represent Huntsville in the Alabama State House. His economic message to replace jobs lost to automation, to expand health care to the least well-off, and his tireless pursuit to bring resources and qualified teachers to public schools, makes Davis the archetype of leadership we need in Alabama. Click here to read more about Davis.
My ask: donate what you can to help fund the eventual Democratic Senate nominee in the special election going and help rebuild the state apparatus. We need people like Davis to come out and run for state office and in the legislative districts we plan to win back in 2018. Part of the way we do that is to get our message out in front of people who want to win now, and later.
Raising money is not easy. We get that. But we have 70 members in our community group who joined to make a difference in Alabama, and I'm asking each of you for help.
Thanks for everything you do.
We are officially live! We have a campaign page ready to be shared! So start sharing!
We laid out a simple plan: we are going to fund the eventual Democratic Senate candidate in the special election while we work simultaenously to rebuild the state party apparatus. We will use the resources we raise online to organize across the Black Belt, north to Huntsville, south to Mobile, and in the rural communities couched in between, to make sure we elect a Senator with our principles.
The special election will also be a vehicle to sow the organizational seeds we need to work towards winning the majority of state house and senate seats after the legislative districts are redrawn. This will usher in an era where Democrats can and will compete everywhere in the state. We will recruit and field candidates who bring aspiration, enthusiasm, and Alabama values to their candidacy.
Lastly, let's make sure to keep the community group alive and vibrant by publishing current events in Alabama, opportunities to partner with like-minded organizations to benefit our mission, and strategy ideas you believe could move the cause forward.
Let's get the word out: We are going to win Alabama back!
Hello community members! Welcome. I hope you're ready to kick-ass.
Aspiration for change starts with a vision. So here is my vision for Alabama: a state party which can recruit and train local talent, field strong progressive candidates, organize party activists and lifelong Democrats, and commit to winning at every level. Alabama has been overlooked by the DNC, party brokers, and the so-called electoral experts who prefer billionaire candidates over grassroots leaders, who treat a state where the civil rights movement was born as a Republican write-off. Nonsense. We know better.
Bottom line: The resurgence of the Alabama Democratic State Party starts with us. Progressives in the state need us to step up, and put the full force of the progressive movement behind them. And it begins with the special election to replace former Senator and current U.S. Attorney General, Jeff Sessions.
A candidate with strong progressive credentials should run in the special election, and we will be there with the financial support and talent to help them run a winning campaign while we rebuild a party infrastructure to win in 2018 and beyond.
In the upcoming days and weeks, we are going to create a base of financial support for the eventual Democratic Senate Nominee. But we need to act now if we are going to succeed. Can you please invite your friends and family to join our group? We need to spread the word.
Then we can start building to provide the resources we need to put organizers on the ground across all 67 Alabama counties. To fund rapid response work to expose the continued mismanagement and misdeeds of the Alabama GOP. And to field strong progressive candidates to win razor thin races we lost in 2016.
Thanks for being on the team.
More to come.
So, our Luv Gov is shameful, and folks are starting to organize across the country. This is a place to invite people who want to help Alabama, we can look at key races to help democrats, maybe even raise some money for some new tech tools for the state party?
We could organize some events, get together and start to take back Alabama. They are doing it in Utah - let's do it here. Goal is to get to 1,000 members by Friday - invite whoever wants to help make Alabama Blue.... let's go - please post this to your Twitter or Facebook!
We're a network of former and current Alabama residents, Alabama lovers, Alabama college grads, all uniting virtually to help support and rebuild Alabama's progressive voting infrastructure and the Democratic Party.
