Really excited to announce that we are only $99 away from goal and I have a haircut scheduled for next week! Thanks for all the help and support! I will be matching all pledges until the goal is met.
In the US, you're innocent until proven guilty. But that doesn't mean it's smart to support people under investigation when you're a public official. Yesterday, the Governor of KY, Matt Bevin posed with VP Pence and called those who support the rule of law "snarks". The President is under investigation as well as his whole team, which includes Pence. The NYT reports that Pence even lied about know Flynn being under investigation, hiring him anyways. Giving Flynn access to secret code word, classified material. This is ALL unacceptable, despite finial outcome of guilt or not. We all live and die by perception. Our public officials, more so.
Today the House of Representatives is targeting the ACA, yet again. This time, they didn't even bother to score it, because the last GAO score caused major backlash and shut down the first try. 8/10 Americans have a pre-exsistenting condition and to pull the rug out from under them is Un-American. We should use the ACA as a stepping stone, instead of dismantling it in a way that only helps big medicine and hurts little folks
My name is _______. I live in the _____ district in [State]. My address is _________. Today the House of Representatives is targeting the ACA, yet again. This time, they didn't even bother to score it, because the last GAO score caused major backlash and shut down the first try. 8/10 Americans have a pre-exsistenting condition and to pull the rug out from under them is Un-American. We should use the ACA as a stepping stone, instead of dismantling it in a way that only helps big medicine and hurts little folks. Thank you for your time and service.
After matching funds from last weeks drive, we are only $600 away from declaring and openly running. I despise fundraising, and I'm excited to get a big portion done early so I can focus on messaging policies and projecting them. I'm only willing to do something I hate because folks have asked me to do something I consider important, serve the public.
I'm happy to be called a naive dreamer, but I still believe we can find a way to make Government work for the people again. The only catch, is it will take people like myself and other regular folks running for office. Run yourself, pledge, or volunteer. They all matter.
No way around it, the political system is totally bought and sold. As and activist and lobbyist for nearly a decade, I have seen it over and over, first hand. One of the big reasons that people don't run for office or fail when they do, is fundraising. The unfortunate reality is that in order to start chipping away at 'Citizens United' at the State and Federal level, we will first have to compete on the same stomping grounds as the the corrupt corporate candidates.
This means you have no choice but to be annoying and fundraise daily. That is why I also pledge to bring a bill that creates a robust public financing option in the state of KY. Public financing is the obvious, outlined exception in 'Citizens United'. I also pledge to bring a bill that creates ballot initiatives and referendums in the state. We currently only have legislatively driven referendums, meaning, lawmakers still drive the process. This way, citizens have a real voice in proposing laws, passing laws, holding elected officials accountable, and much more.
In 2016, I added my name to the race against Senator Rand Paul, simply because there weren't any at the time. I am passionate about people not running unopposed. I also chose to self fund, because I never thought I could raise the millions needed to defeat the Senator and because I loath fundraising in general. However, I got a taste for just how much issues matter during that race, as I saw a huge number of votes, for almost nothing spent.
Since so many people have asked me to run in 2018, I feel obligated to do so in a manner I know is the only realistic shot: playing their game. I also want to run lots of ads. Not with my face but with a message to propel Kentucky into the next century, in what I will be calling my "Kentucky 2.0" marketing campaign. Focusing on securing the future tech jobs that drive our current and future economy. This plan will also focus on real family values, like helping drive down the divorce rate, by making sure people secure good work and have peace of mind at home. Instead of supposed family values that just mostly uses religion to cast woman and minorities in a negative light. That is not the Jesus I learned about at church camp as a kid.
So, I ask you to bare with me. Just realize for every 25 emails the DNC sends you every day, I will probably have to send 1. By securing decent fundraising abilities, I can then legitimize my message and campaign through mass marketing. My goal is to leave a giant, philosophical, burring bag on the door of the establishment. But, I will need your help.
Being a progressive in a red state, can feel isolating. Running for office on a progressive platform in a red state, can feel more so. This is a place to share ideas, skills, and a sense of community with like minded candidates.
