Here in Eau Claire, democracy is working.

Serving on city council for the last three years, I’ve seen first-hand that elected leaders can work together constructively, even when they disagree. I admire and value each and every one of my council colleagues—even though sometimes I vote differently than they do. I know we are all here to do our best to serve the common good. Democracy is working.

I have seen the power of the people over these three years, as residents raised their voices and created real change in the city. Democracy is working.

Of course, these three years have not been without difficulty, especially 2020--wow.

Every day I am grateful for our city staff, who work with dedication, skill and integrity, doing their jobs while responding effectively to COVID-19.

I am grateful to be part of an elected body that values science and evidence-based policy, supports our health heroes, and uses an equity lens in our decision making. Our goal is to be proactive about recognizing and undoing the systemic barriers facing people due race, gender, ability, or class.
