Hi everyone! My name is Chad Leo, a Democratic activist, and young politico.
On February 27th, I attempted to file for the Democratic State Central Committee in Calvert County, MD. I believe wholeheartedly in the power of our party, and the strength we carry when we are united. Unfortunately, our local party is not the premier example of that vision, and it's time for new leadership to bring young, energetic minds front and center.
I've heard stories about our local Board of Elections, but I never thought I'd run into trouble with them. On that day back in February, the BOE portrayed another overreach of their power when they illegally prohibited me from placing my name on the ballot. Claiming a bogus law, they never entertained any other opinion and simply refused to listen to anyone except themselves.
After speaking with legal aid, I am confident that I should have, in fact, been allowed to run for office and am now suing in order to do so. Here in Maryland, our wonderful MGA has established law allowing the judiciary to review every ballot before printing, but it's on the candidate to ensure that the issue is brought up.
This is our chance to send a message to the Board of Elections, that their incompetence will not be allowed anymore in Calvert County. Now is our chance to make history in placing the youngest ever individual up for public office. Now is our chance to cross party lines and do what is best for Calvert County. Now is our chance to tell the government to FOLLOW THE LAW!
