Re-Elect Alica Holman for Council - 5th Ward - East Orange

My story is simple. I love the city of East Orange it is our city, but my heart is deeply embedded in the 5th Ward. I've been serving my community for 15 years and I plan to increase my involvement and investments. My dedication to my city has allowed me to adopt many friends and loved ones as family.

Why am I running for re-election? There are still needs that need to be met and as mentioned I am solely invested in increasing my involvement to figure out ways to fulfill my city's needs. One major obstacle our city and the world is facing is the battle with COVID-19. Our priority is our children who need care and adequate education. I will elicit information from the parents and teachers who are with our children first hand to see what they need. We are also dealing with the loss of jobs and the need for food and nutrition. In the past I have partnered with Masjid As Haabul Yameen on several community events to donate food to the community. Additionally, each year I partner with the 1000 Thankful Souls community dinner for Thanksgiving. Food should not be scarce in our community with the right connections and helping hands.

The community is my family we are more alike then different. I am a black woman and I understand we above others have problems that need to be addressed as well. I am proud to be apart of the PosPartum AndMe. This foundation was formed to bring about awareness to postpartum depression. I plan on seeking other organizations to aid and support our families like our women do.

My goals for my next term are to target directly to make our city a better, easier place to live. With all that we have endured these past few months, I would like to speak with State legislatures to create harsh fines to address the slumlords here in the city. I am also hopeful that we will pass legislation to reduce the amount charged for parking.  Some tenants are paying as much as $200-$300 for a parking space. Quality of life speaks to us all in East Orange.
