Hello. My name is Paul Evans, and Oregon’s House District 20 has been my home for more than 40 years. Growing up in rural Oregon, I learned the values of equality and fairness, hard work, and honesty.

After graduating from Central High School, I received my Bachelor’s degree from Western Oregon State College and my Master’s from Oregon State. I spent 20 years serving our country in the Air Force and Oregon Air National Guard, often in global hot-spots like Iraq and Afghanistan.  I am currently a speech communication professor at Chemeketa Community College and have served as the State Representative for this legislative district since 2014, most recently chairing the Committee on Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness. I am seeking reelection and, with your help, will continue to be YOUR voice in Salem.

More than anything else, this brief summary should highlight one undeniable fact: I am, first and foremost, a public servant. My unique blend of military and political experiences and leadership opportunities has helped me achieve the results Oregonians seek.

Here is a list of our accomplishments since my election to the House in 2014:

  • We passed paid sick leave, pay equity, predictive scheduling, and region-specific increases in the Minimum Wage for working families;

  • We defended the Low Carbon Fuels program, decreased lethal pollutants in certain plastics, acted to end Coal Power by 2040;

  • We closed “private sales,” “unmarried partner,” and “stalker” loopholes in firearms; Increased funds of Oregon State Police background checks;

  • We passed Ballot Measure 96, unleashing the most significant investment in veterans’ care in Oregon’s history;

  • We secured seismic rehabilitation of the Center Street Bridge, new construction at WOU, greenway improvements for the Independence Landing Project, Match Funding for the Mike McLaran Center for Student Success, improved access to the YMCA Court-Care program, and life-changing career and technical education for students in the Central and Salem-Keizer schools.

We can all agree that good schools, safe streets, a healthy environment, small business success, family wage jobs, and a sturdy infrastructure are important. With your help, I can continue to work on these and other issues important to our state and attain the results we desire. I believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to achieve the American dream.

Integrity and experience are key factors when voting for a candidate. That is why Oregon Rep. Paul Evans deserves to be re-elected.

I am particularly impressed with his commitment to women's issues. His record on issues that benefit women is solid. For instance, he was worked extensively to eliminate bias in the workplace.

He has also championed the cause of pay equity. I am especially proud of his work on protecting women's health-care choices and guaranteeing access to medical services.

Rep. Paul Evans also made it clear that while he is in favor of reasonable laws regarding gun use, he voted to eliminate the loophole that allowed spousal abusers access to firearms.

Rep. Paul Evans has made Oregon a better place for all people, including strong work on issues particularly important to women.

He has the experience that makes a difference, and he has shown he can work with Democrats, Republicans and Independents to get things done.

I applaud the record Rep. Paul Evans has established. and look forward to him continuing his efforts in another term.
